人間環境学専攻に着任し1年が経過しました。
この3月に、研究室の学部4年生が卒業し、はじめて教員として学生を社会に送り出す経験をしました。直接の指導教官ではないにも関わらず、僭越ながら親心的なものを感じました。体に気をつけて頑張ってほしいものです。
その卒業生が立派な卒論とともに研究室に残してくれたものが、「リアルタイムバス時刻表webアプリ」です。「柏は意外と近いですね〜」と都内から通ってくれていた彼ですが、追い込み時期にシャトルバスを逃した後のバスの検索は、地味に億劫だったのかもしれません。卒論提出後の「最後の春休み」の時間を使って作っていました。
このアプリは、現在時刻を基準として、次のシャトルバスと東武バス（to キャンパス駅、柏駅、江戸川台駅）の発車時刻を刻々とブラウザに表示し続けるものです。 機能としてはそれだけなのですが、タブの一つに忍ばせておくと、不思議なことに、それまで数分前にダッシュでバスに駆け込むか、結局逃して慌てて乗換案内を検索していた私が、充分な余裕を持って居室を出るようになりました。
もしかすると、このアプリは、バスの時間を表示するだけでなく、制作者の彼のことや、そこから派生して今いる学生たちのこと、また自分の学生時代や今後のことなどを立ち止まって考えさせる機能も持っていて、それが心の余裕に繋がっているのかもと思ったりしました。
でも、この記事が公開される頃には、見慣れてしまって、またダッシュしているかもしれません。
リアルタイムバス時刻表はこんな感じ

It’s been a year since I started my position in the Department of Human and Engineered Environmental Studies.
In March this year, a fourth-year undergraduate student in our lab graduated, and for the first time, I experienced sending out students to society as a faculty member. Even though I wasn’t the student’s direct supervisor, I couldn’t help but feel a somewhat parental pride. I hope the student take care of himself and continue to do the best.
The graduate left not only an excellent graduation thesis, but also a “Real-Time Bus Timetable Web App.”
He used to commute from Tokyo and often said that Kashiwa is actually pretty close. But during the busy times of writing his thesis, searching for the next bus after missing the shuttle might have been annoying. Therefore, he built this app during his last spring break after submitting his graduation thesis.
This application displays the departure times of the next shuttle bus and Tobu Bus (which goes to the Campus Station, Kashiwa Station and Edogawadai Station) based on the current time.
That’s all it does functionally, but when I keep it open in the browser, it’s strange that people like me who used to dash to catch the bus at the last minute or search for alternate routes after missing it with panic, now find myself able to leave my office with plenty of time to spare.
Perhaps this app isn’t just for displaying bus times—it also reminds me of the student who created it, and from there, makes me reflect on the students I work with now, my own days as a student, and what lies ahead in the future. It brings a sense of calm to my mind, allows me to pause and reflect for a moment.
Well, by the time this article is published, I might have already gotten used to the interface and be dashing for the bus again
