ペットを超えたペットたち　　　

　ついにここまできたか。日曜日の朝、わたしはテレビに釘付けになった。来たなプリキュア。やはりプリキュア。さすがプリキュア。昨年は臼福本店さんの第一昭栄丸そのものの、おしゃれなマグロ遠洋船が主人公の父の船として登場して（ひろがるスカイ！プリキュア）、ひそかなざわめきを生んだ。今年はどうだ。なんと、プリキュアになるのが人間じゃない。正確に言えば、人間だけではない。主人公2人が飼う犬と猫も、人間になって、それからプリキュアになるのだ（わんだふるプリキュア！）。

　擬人化され、他の動物とは異なる立場を人間から与えられたものたちは昔からいた。ディズニーのプルートーとグーフィーは犬という意味では同じだが、かたやミッキーの愛犬、かたやミッキーの友達である。「動物と人間の間」の境界線は、えげつないまでに恣意的で、同じ範疇にいるとみなされていたものたちを容易に差異化する。生きものと人間の関係を追いかける研究者として、見逃せないプリキュア展開である。画面はレインボーに輝いて楽しそうだ。昔からこのキラキラ感が苦手だったものとしてはちょっといたたまれないのだが（むしろ戦隊ものの怪人たちのほうが好物である）、日曜の朝のひと時、チャンネルは固定されそうである。

Pets beyond pets 
 
On Sunday morning, I found myself captivated by the television. The moment I had eagerly anticipated had finally arrived. If any children’s program could be deemed a game changer, it would undoubtedly be Pretty Cure. Last year, the tuna longliner, Shouei Maru I, captained by Usufuku Honten, made a notable appearance as the hero’s father’s ship in “Soaring Sky! Precure.” This unexpected cameo created quite a buzz within the fisheries industry. What surprises await us this year? The possibilities are beyond anyone’s imagination. In “Wonderful Precure!,” not only do humans transform into heroes, but two pets also undergo heroic transformations as supergirls, transcending the traditional boundaries between humans and non-humans.
 
Animals, anthropomorphized and elevated by humans, have long inhabited various human creations, from fairy tales to cartoons. Disney’s Pluto and Goofy, both conceptualized as dogs, occupy distinct roles—Pluto as Mickey’s beloved pet and Goofy as Mickey’s friend. These arbitrary distinctions between ‘animals’ and ‘humans’ are strikingly grotesque, as they easily differentiate and stratify beings that belong to the same category. As a researcher dedicated to exploring the relationship between humans and non-humans, this new storyline in Pretty Cure is impossible to ignore. The scenes, dazzling with rainbows, exude a sense of joy. Admittedly, I have always preferred the monsters and villains in superhero shows and have felt somewhat uneasy with the overly shiny, girly programs. However, I find myself compelled to stay tuned to this channel on Sunday mornings for the foreseeable future.
